Protection from wildfires and embers with Vulcan Technologies' fire protection vents

Our ember-resistant vents block embers before the fire arrives. When wildfires come near and reach critical temperature, the intumescent coating on the matrix structure expands, creating a "firewall." Vulcan Vents are the only vents that meet both the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and the one (1) hour fire test standards for the exterior of buildings. Our fire-resistant roof vents and fireproof attic vents also provide the proper amount of ventilation to enclosed areas of the home, including the attic and crawl spaces. The WUI is a wildfire-prone geographic environment where structures and flammable vegetation merge, resulting in fires devastating to both lives and properties. WUI areas include all structures built or being built in low to highly forested or vegetated areas, including high-density housing areas.

Our fire protection vents are easy to install in both new and retrofit conditions, and they are constructed from high-quality materials. We can provide you with consulting services for fire retardant construction, including the use of the Vulcan Vents.

Fully Tested and Certified

The Vulcan Vents are the only fire-resistant vents that meet both the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and the one (1)-hour fire test standards for the exterior of buildings -- all while providing the proper amount of ventilation to attic and crawl spaces in building structures. Vulcan Vents have:

Successfully passed the ASTM testing standards for ember and flame intrusion (ASTM E 2886 and ASTM E 2886M).

Are listed by California State Fire Marshal for use in the Wildland Urban Interface wildfires, under category 8165 of the Building Material Listing Program.

Were the first to be listed in the California Building Code (Chapter 7A).

Vulcan Vents have also passed the one (1) hour fire test under the ASTM E 119 one (1) hour fire test standard. This standard is applicable in property side yard setback issues where a one (1) hour fire rating is being required.

Easy to use and install

Our fire and ember-resistant vents are easy to install in both new construction (which use fewer vents and reduce construction costs) and retrofit conditions (no need for new vent openings, which results in easy, inexpensive "switch over"). The Vulcan Vents are made of high-quality materials and quality construction. We can provide you with consulting services for fire retardant construction, including the use of the Vulcan Vents. They can be used in numerous materials, such as wood, stucco, mil core, foam back, and fiber cement. Available in many formats such as continuous, dormer, eave, foundation, gable, retrofit, soffit, and custom applications.

Vulcan Vent

The core of our fire protection vents is manufactured out of high-grade aluminum honeycomb and coated with a proprietary intumescent coating made by FireFree Coatings. The intumescent coating is designed to quickly swell up and close off when exposed to high heat. The expanded material acts as an insulator to heat, fire and embers.
